Blogging from Walmart

Blogging begins turnaround for homeless woman – CNN.com

I’m thankful that I have the luxury of blogging from a fixed apartment…This story of optimism brings me hope and I wanted to pass it on…

Heading to Spanish Consulate in the Morning

So, we finally have all of our papers together to apply for our visas! (I think!) So we have an appointment in downtown L.A. at 10:30am PST. Pray that we really do have all of the right papers and that we’ve filled things out right. And while you’re thinking of us, pray we get there on time too! It’s a bit of a drive and in LA traffic!

Radical Living in a Comfortable World – Seth Barnes

Radical Living in a Comfortable World A Blog by Seth Barnes

I just found Seth Barnes’ blog and I have to say…it’s some great stuff. I like the straight-forwardness and the depth of what he writes about. He goes after some good internal development stuff…it’s worth a read.

Things Are Going to Change

Yeah me too, but I’m talking about my blog. I’m bored with how it looks so it’s time to do some updates. To Jen’s blog too…and I’m going to be creating a blog specifically for news and info revolving around our work in Barcelona.

I know you’ve all been waiting eagerly for this news….there you have it. Both me and my blog will continue to grow and change…that’s good news for us all.

One of those trips…

17 hours of travel is brutal. There’s no doubt about it. But there are sometimes things that make a long trip a bit longer…here is my list of things that made 17 hours seem like 27:

-Airline worker trying to shame us for not checking into the domestic leg of our trip 3 hours in advance.
-Terrible food at Chicago O’hare…
-I ‘got’ to sit next to another bigger guy on our 7.5 hour flight…not fun rubbing shoulders and elbows with another man for such a long time. At least Mark was cool, he did ask me on a second date
-The kid behind me screamed almost the entire time…and kicked my seat…poor parents
-My ipod hold button wasn’t working and my ipod would suddenly turn up really loud if I accidently hit it wrong
-Almost every time I went to the bathroom we hit turbulence and I had to do the balancing act!
-More terrible food on the plane
-The audio jack in my seat wasn’t working…so no movies for me…they were even showing Twilight and I missed it
-On our last flight, the plane was acting funny before takeoff…like flickering lights and weird noises. Despite being reassured by the flight attendant that it was ‘normal’ it still scared the heck out of us. Nothing is better than kind of wondering if you are going to die. I was reading a book about resurrection, heaven, and the afterlife…I almost felt like God was preparing me for what was to come!

Ok…enough of the complain-fest…despite all of this we did have the best trip with Maisie we’ve ever had! The flights went by fast and I got to do a lot of reading. Our friends Zac and Mike picked us up from the airport and gave us a nice (and helpful) welcome back! It’s great to be in Europe and I’m so thankful to be here again. Lisbon is beautiful…and we can see the ocean from our room. We’re getting some family time before our conference starts this week too. We really have so much to be thankful for!

After getting some rest tonight we’re going to go into Lisbon to see the city and do some touristy things. Hopefully we’ll be able to sleep through the night and wake up refreshed and ready to go! At least I won’t be having to rub shoulders with a man while trying to sleep tonight!

This is what the Kingdom is all about

I had tears in my eyes as I finished this story…and usually when I read ESPN.com I’m crying because the Colts lose another playoff game. But this time it’s because I’m so thankful that I’m a part of this Kingdom…

Facebook in a Crowd – NYTimes.com

I found this article online today and thought it made some good observations about connecting in our culture today and how Facebook plays a role in our ‘relationships’. It’s worth a read if you’re into social connectivity stuff…or just want to feel better about no one showing up at events you plan!

“All Politics Aside — Today is a Good Day!” A great post from Greg Boyd

Today on Greg Boyd’s blog he had a great write up about his feelings of Barack Obama being elected president. Here is the link if you want to read it on his site…

All Politics Aside — Today is a Good Day! » Blog » Greg Boyd (Christus Victor Ministries).

His words were good enough for us (Jen and I) to both copy them onto ours…I hope you don’t mind Greg! (like he reads my blog!)

Today is a good day.

I don’t care if you’re a Democrat, Republican, Socialist, Libertarian, Communist, Anarchist or even a Christarchist who feels called to abstain from the whole political process. I couldn’t care less. The fact that Americans have elected a black man to be their president makes today a very good day!

When you reflect on the centuries of bondage and abuse blacks endured as slaves who were bought and sold like cattle and often treated worse…

when you remember that blacks were once regarded for legal purposes as just over half-human…

when you consider the extraordinary illegal and immoral ways white politicians changed all the rules to keep blacks out of power following the civil war…

when you recall the dehumanizing injustice of the Jim Crow south, the horrors of the KKK, the heroic struggles for civil rights, the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the on-going systemic racism that continues to marginalize and oppress blacks…

you can’t help but celebrate the day Americans elected a black man to lead them.

All politics aside,

today is a very good day!
