Jen and I are going to be starting a new blog and I need to decide on what the address should be…
Here’s a few ideas:
justinandjenpowell.com (that’s our original web address)
powellsinbcn.com (bcn is short for Barcelona)
storiesfrombarcelona.com (a bit long, but not bad)
storiesfrombcn.com (shorter version)
I don’t know…I want to come up with something that’s a bit creative, but maybe function needs to be most important.
Maybe answer this: If you were doing a search for us what would you type in?

of those, justinandjenpowell seems to make the most sense to me, and then storiesfrombarcelona after that. they’re both longer, but easy to remember.
I’d agree with Mike. The longer versions are easier to read than the ones with the abbereviation.
I already went ahead an bought ‘www.powellsinbarcelona.com’ Thought I’d go boring, but functional. You’ll see it fully up and going in the next couple of weeks.
I like the first one…and what I was thinking that wasn’t on the list is the one you just mentioned in the comment : powellsinbarcelona. just sums it up!
Hi Justin –
Just a bit of nerdery – but the spiders that index web pages and that are ultimately returned as result sets on search engines do not base their search matches on the url of the site, rather most of this comes from the content of the page combined with the contents of your sites tags.
As such if your meta’s read like:
Then your domain could be something totally unrelated to the content of the page: e.g. urbanidealist and the search results for Justin or Jen or Barcelona would still hit on google or yahoo or MSN or whatever.
My two cents – let me know when it switches over so I can update the bookmarklets.
Kevin
As such if your meta’s read like:
<meta name=’description’ content=’Justin and Jen in Barcelon’ />
<meta name=’keywords’ content=’Justin,Jen,Powell,BCN,Barcelon,Spain’ />
Then your domain could be something totally…sorry for spamming
@Kevin: You are going nerdy! But I love it! Thanks for the heads up on entering meta data and what not.
Also, I won’t be ending urbanidealist.com, just creating a new blog specifically to talk about and give info on our work in BCN
I am a fan of long but in this case if i were to search for you guys i would go with thepowellsinbcn straight and to the point.
I would search for justinandjeninbarcelona.com. It’s long but it makes perfect sense.
I would search for justinandjeninbarcelona.com. It’s long but it makes perfect sense.
