It’s good to be near sighted

CribWhen I was in the third grade I started wearing glasses…year after year until about four years ago my eyes had gotten worse and worse. I can only read things that are more than 13 inches from my face with my contacts or glasses on…I can barely tell what direction the ‘big E’ on a vision test is facing!

Today I was painting my daughters crib and Jen was taking pictures and I didn’t want to have my glasses on in the pictures so I painted a while without them. I actually think that I painted better because I could only see the area that I was working on and not be distracted by the other areas I still needed to get to.

My sight is actually a funny contradiction to the way I live…I normally live in the future and I daydream more about the future than I do the past or the present. This can be a good thing, but it can also send me into a downward spiral when the future has a lot of things coming my way…like we do right now! (Baby, new church stuff, finances)

For once in my life I am thankful that my body is near sighted even though my life is not…it’s a good reminder that sometimes we need to deal with only what is in front of us and take life as it comes. I’m trying to find the balance of all this!

  1. Justin, I have this picture in my head of you painting your daughter’s crib (my granddaughter’s crib!) and musing over life. I believe God has given you great insight in understanding how to take a situation/event and make it applicable to your spiritual growth. So really Justin, you’re not nearsighted or farsighted…you have GREAT vision!!!

  2. Hi buddy,

I wish I could get you the surgery I had. Sounds like you have my eyes! Sorry about that!

  3. I cant believe you are painting your “daughters” crib…Its so wild to think…Praying for youguys love ya!

  4. Justin, I really like the way you reference aspects of life to spiritual or just prfound significance – you have a gift! And I also find myself in the “forward-thinking” focus most of the time, which can be stressful (as I’m finding right now as well).

I’m glad you’re getting ready for your daughter – I’m so excited for you guys!
